Federal Row-Style Kitchen

After being in their house for nearly a year, the Matthews wanted to renovate their 19th century Federal-Style row house. After reviewing several designs, they felt passionate about preserving the old world charm of their home. The challenge was to create an open-concept kitchen and dining room that met the needs of this family of three. Michael and Jolene Matthews home was built during the late 19th century in a major northern city. One thing that attracted them to this house was its location. This area was defined by its historic row houses, which share similar facades that promote the feel of a close-knit neighborhood.

Atmosfär Boutiques [Prospective Design for Stockholm, Sweden]

Atmosfär is a control, management, or power of an atmosphere [Swedish translation for Ambiance]. The design focus for constructing Atmosfär Boutiques is the renewed state from one location to another, from old to new, and from emotion to atmosphere. In the proposed design, each space is celebrated and visually embraced in their own way.

Presentation Board for Taster's Wine Bar

Taster's Wine Bar

Transition is the movement or change from one position, state, stage, or concept to another. The design focus for renovating 106 West Parrish Street is the transitioning state from one space to another, from old to new, and from part to whole. In the proposed design, the spaces between destinations such as the lounge and retail area as well as the apartment foyers and livable spaces are celebrated and visually reinforced. The transition areas compress and release as people move through level changes in the floor and ceiling, making the space relatable to the human scale. Historic and modern materials are juxtaposed throughout the space to reflect the transition of the building from old to new.

Entrance [Pre-Lounge]: This space is used for wine tastings and minor dining.

"Did Everyone Sign the Waiver?" [Before Pictures of the Wine Bar]

Upon entering this building our tour guide said, "Has everyone signed the waiver? For in buildings like these you may fall through floors!" And if that wasn't enough the woman that own a neighboring store informed us about different "activities" this building has housed.
