Are You Learning in Class?

Datum, Scale, Dimension, Repetition, Visualization, Focus, and Joinery were terms that often spoken about in our groups today. One main thing that stood out to me was the question, “Is it needed?” As designers we often look at things and add the unnecessary. When the truth is, it’s not needed. This topic also came up in a one on one session the I had with a professor, who told me:

Sometimes, because you want it there may not be the best thing. You can’t present an idea to a client and expect them to spend money on unneeded material. The unneeded material could possibly be used for 250sq.ft. of additional space. So if it’s not beneficial to the overall result get rid of it. (This was said nicely)

One thing that today helped me noticed was, its not always about what you are working with, but how it effects the space surrounding it. Example: I had my mind set on my final twig project as being black but, when I seen various angles that the shadows cast it made me think of using white.
