Final SYTYCD: What Started As A Joke!?!

Why yes that is Lady Gaga and Beyonce's cover stitched together with my face caught in the middle. For our final "So You Think You Can Draw," we were assigned to create and CD with with our images saved to them along with designing a cover. Jokingly I stated that I should do this and when a couple of my peers thought that it would be hilarious, I decided... why not?

For each image I decided to name it after a song from either Lady Gaga or Beyonce (The italicized words are the words that have either been added or changed from the original song title).

The Phoenix

Of great beauty and ongoing life, the Phoenix lives through the years only to burn into ashes and rise again in its youth. With each transition, he becomes stronger and wiser through the years, embodying this space as well as the person in which this space is designed for, Madeleine Albright.

A Residential Kitchen for Madeleine Albright

In creating this residential kitchen we were give an iconic figure to model it after. I was assigned Madeleine Albright, the first female Secretary of State, who served under the Clinton administration. From this, I arrived at the concept of Morphology with a focus on the Phoenix. My previous project was done through the usage of computer so I decided to do this project that consists of hand renderings and hand drafted documents including construction documents not posted to blog.

Is it Obvious?

In doing these materials I was informed by a T.A. that I should be able to ask other students to see if they could guess the materials that I have chosen to draw. The first row of swatches are rendered with pen only, the second row was rendered using graphite with the slight assistance of pen, and the third row was rendered with marker, color pencil, and slight assistance of pen. The first column is Bamboo flooring, the second column is Recycled Glass Tile Back-Splash, the third is IceStone counter-tops, and the last column are Copper Tiles. My personal favorite of the entire set, is the bottom row rendered in color.

Revised Presentation Board of Foods Lab

A group of students from Environmental Design III were selected to represent our projects to the Dean so our ideas could be further suggested for the Foods Lab renovation located on campus that is to be renovated in the near future. [Previous Presentation Boards]

Logo [SYTYCD]

This is the logo that I created in Visual Communications for my current project in studio which is, a residential kitchen for Madeleine Albright. I arrived at this symbol through the concept of "Morphology [The Phoenix]."

Gathering information from the book, "Eat Where You Live," I decided to create, handout, and post this handout online for others to view. The web addresses listed above are to assist the public in finding sustainable ways of consuming healthy foods.

Paisley: Retro but Love

Although paisley has been around for years it still remains one of my favorite patterns. This graphic, that was hand drawn and then put into Photoshop, was inspired by a shirt that I recently purchased at Express clothing. [Original Hand Drawn Sketch]

This is a small concept board for my current residential kitchen project in studio.

The Mushroom?

Sitting in class, I reflected back to my childhood and the excitement playing Super Mario Brothers brought to my heart. But looking at it from being a twenty years old versus an eight year old, made me think of the myths in game playing, such as the mushroom. Mushrooms are sometimes seen as deadly instead of something that makes you grow and gain strength or even give you another life. So what made them chose the mushroom? Why not milk, that's what my mother always suggested. [Hand Drawn & Photoshop Rendered]

The Entenza House

This poster was created in Adobe Illustrator using various tools that I acquired in Visual Communications as well as Yearbook Staff. The poster above depicts a rendering of the main Living/Dining room, Axonometric of the North East Corner, Floor Plan, Interior Section, and an Interior Elevation.

So my mother guilted me into drawing her flowers. I really didn't mind, I was only busy being lazy at the time. Her exact quote, "Son, it's a shame that you can draw and I have nothing from you at work."

Second Blog Header

When we received the opportunity to redo one of our "So You Think You Can Draw" assignments in Visual Communications decided to redo my favorite, the Blog Header, BUT THERE'S A PROBLEM! It keeps uploading in blue instead of its original colors... AhhHHHhhhhhh... Sigh* I guess I will have to be patient and wait until I can get this problem resolved.

Mike and Ike's [Case Study House #9]

After drawing this room (Case Study House #9) I began thinking of colorways. After contemplating, I noticed that the Mike and Ike's that I was eating had a retro themed colorway. Feeling inspired I began to render and...

...And this is how it turned out! I must admit I was a little worried at first about these colors. But you must admit if someone told you that they picked the colorway for your main living space from a box of candy you would be weary too.
